
The photo above provides for a very interesting contrast of the women living in Kabul. Another thing that isn't very noticable in this photo is that women wearing burkas in kabul very often times wear these really clunky platform or high healed shoes, it's a pretty funky mix, most people would agree that it's a sign of the changes going on. Below is a picture of a normal street with the mountains in the background, it recently rained like cats and dogs for a day, so that meant snow for the beautiful mountains surrounding kabul!!

i came across your blog and must say i find it interesting. my family is originally from afghanistan, having left in 1979. just to add to your comment, back in the day (60s,70s), afghan women used to look to the runways of milan and paris for fashion tips. it wasn't all just burqas. when i look at some of my mother's old pictures, it is quite interesting to see how "western" they dressed back then. hopefully, things will start looking better for afghanistan.
btw, have you picked up any farsi and/pashto? also, how about the afghan music? :D
